Akpabio, Bassey, Ekong emerge APC consensus candidates in Akwa Ibom

The Senate President, Chief Senator Godswill Akpabio, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Akwa Ibom North-west (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district.

Similarly, Senator Ekong Sampson and Senator Aniekan Bassey also clinched the party’s ticket for Akwa Ibom South (Eket) and Akwa Ibom Northeast (Uyo) senatorial districts respectively.

They had no opponents in primaries which held across the various wards in the three senatorial districts of the state on Monday ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Our correspondents observed that voters trooped out enmasse to cast their votes but witnessed delays in the arrival of voting materials.

Akpabio is currently serving as the 15th president of the Nigerian Senate.

He was first elected as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District in 2015, lost in the 2019 senatorial elections and won in the 2023 election.
