CWON honours Gov Eno at Uyo Diocesan new year prayer

The Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria (CWON), Uyo Diocese, has honoured Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, in recognition of his leadership and support for faith-based initiatives.

The presentation took place during the Uyo Diocesan New Year Prayer and Fasting programme held from January 1 to 4, 2026, at the Cardinal Ekanem Seminary, Uyo.

The event attracted clergy, religious faithful and worshippers from across the diocese who gathered to seek spiritual direction at the start of the year.

Presenting a portrait titled “Show of Gratitude”, the CWON President, Lady Iniobong Otong, said the gesture reflected the collective appreciation of Catholic women in the diocese for the governor’s leadership style, which she described as compassionate, inclusive and respectful of religious institutions.

She noted that Catholic women across the diocese had followed the governor’s actions with keen interest and felt compelled to formally express their gratitude.

Members of the organisation attended the event in large numbers and also presented gifts to the governor as part of the ceremony.

Governor Eno, who received the portrait amid applause, expressed appreciation for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and collaboration with religious bodies in promoting peace and development in the state.

Observers described the presentation as a symbolic affirmation of the cordial relationship between the Akwa Ibom State Government and faith-based organizations, highlighting the role of moral and spiritual institutions in fostering social cohesion.

The event underscored the significance of constructive engagement between government and religious communities, particularly at a time when such partnerships are seen as vital to addressing social and developmental challenges.
