A sociopolitical group, G-9 Coalition for Senator Aniekan Bassey (SAB), has congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the outcome of the party’s recent national convention as a testament to internal democracy and progressive leadership.
In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Mbuotidem Idang, and Secretary, Hon. Otobong Ekong, following the APC National Convention held from March 27 to 28, 2026, the group praised delegates and stakeholders for conducting what it termed a peaceful, transparent, and well-coordinated exercise.
Idang, a former Youth Council Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, said the seamless emergence of the party’s leadership reflects growing institutional stability within the APC, noting that the process has strengthened confidence in the party’s structures and democratic credentials.
He also commended the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Aniekan Bassey, for what he described as exemplary leadership, commitment to inclusivity, and sustained youth empowerment initiatives.
According to him, Senator Bassey’s tenure has been marked by targeted development programmes and grassroots engagement, which have contributed to the APC’s stability and expanding membership base in Akwa Ibom State.
“The outcome of the convention, particularly the re-election of several officials, reinforces confidence in the party’s internal processes and its commitment to continuity and progress,” Idang stated.
He urged members of the newly constituted NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC) to prioritise unity, inclusiveness, and grassroots mobilisation, stressing that effective leadership remains critical at this stage of Nigeria’s democratic development.
Idang further expressed optimism that the new leadership would consolidate on existing achievements, deepen political participation at the grassroots level, and reposition the party for future electoral success.
The group, having noticed the effective representation of Distinguished Senator Aniekan Bassey in many areas of human endeavors, at its well attended meeting, endorsed Senator Basey, Governor Umo Eno, and President Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
They said that Senator Bassey has elevated Akwa Ibom’s concerns on the national stage and praised his interventions in the areas of education, youth empowerment, free healthcare delivery, and the distribution of hundreds of millions in business grants across agriculture, leadership training, petty trading, agro-processing, oil palm farming, and security-related programmes.
“Senator Bassey’s facilitation efforts have yielded tangible infrastructure outcomes: Over 30 communities illuminated with solar streetlights; Solar-powered boreholes installed in water-scarce communities; Construction of a 3-classroom block per LGA, currently underway; facilitation of major road projects, including the 17km Nung Udoe–Ibiaku Obio Ndobo–Adadia-Ikot Akan Road, among others”.
