ICPC Inaugurates anti-corruption unit at Ukana Polytechnic to promote transparency

In a bid to strengthen anti-corruption mechanisms within the institution, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at Federal Polytechnic Ukana.

Delivering a goodwill message at the ceremony held today, the Chairman of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Baba Alaro Shuaib, described the inauguration as a significant step toward promoting a corruption-free public service. He noted that the event marked a critical milestone in equipping newly appointed ACTU members with the necessary foundation to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

He explained that the ACTU, which operates under the direct supervision of the Polytechnic’s Rector, is designed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and ethical practices across the institution. He also commended the Rector for her collaboration with ICPC in advancing the integrity of public service and national development.

The ICPC boss further emphasized that the unit’s responsibilities include regular sensitization programmes, staff training, and active monitoring of key institutional committees. He added that the unit would also conduct Corruption Risk Assessments to proactively identify vulnerabilities and mitigate potential risks.

He stressed that ACTU does not replace management but complements its efforts in promoting institutional integrity.

Speaking during the ceremony,the Rector, Mrs. Eduma Essien expressed gratitude to the management team for their support and shared commitment to upholding ethical standards within the Polytechnic.

Mrs Essien stated that the Polytechnic’s management remains committed to operating within the ambit of the law and is fully prepared to support the ACTU in achieving its mandate. She appreciated ICPC for its continued partnership and guidance.

During the event, Mr. Ehikioya Uduebor was inaugurated as Chairman of the unit, alongside Mr. Abubakar Sani, Mrs. Josephine Inokotong, and Mrs. Nnebuife Emenike as members, while Mrs. Elizabeth Adam Uko will serve as Secretary.

The induction, officiated by Dr. Kioba Anabraba, was described as a landmark moment in the institution’s ongoing efforts to entrench transparency and accountability.

The ICPC team later in a closed door session took the ACTU members through some trainings on preliminary investigations, conduct of System Study among others.

The ceremony was witnessed by Management Staff of the polytechnic including Mr. Idhigu Lucky- Registrar,Dr. Emmanuel Esomonu -bursar among others.
