Ndiya Street: “Eno a promise keeper”, Lawmakers, Akpan Andem market community hail governor over projects delivery

The promise-keeping nature of Governor Umo Eno has earned him praise from both members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and the Akpan Andem market community.

The came when the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport visited the market, on Tuesday, to assess the progress of several projects, including the reconstruction of Ndiya Street, internal roads, drainages, and the installation of solar lighting to ensure they are ready for commissioning on Wednesday, September 6, as part of events to mark Governor Umo Eno’s one hundred days in office celebration.

While the lawmakers hailed Governor Eno’s dedication and praised him for keeping his word within ten weeks after he flagged-off construction of the street, the atmosphere at the market was one of joy and celebration as market women danced happily to show their appreciation to the governor.

In his remark, chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, Otobong Bob, commended Governor Eno for fulfilling his campaign promises and delivering on his commitment to the Akpan Andem market community.

Bob emphasized that his committee was responsible for ensuring that the state’s funds are utilized wisely, and members were pleased with the quality of work done in the market.

“Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly approves all the monies spent by the governor in this state. And wherever Akwa Ibom money is spent, the house of assembly has the powers to visit such places to ensure that the money is spent judiciously.

“This particular project is the first project to be commissioned by Governor Umo Eno tomorrow (Wednesday, September 6th), and it is one of his campaign promises to show that he is a promise keeping governor”, he said.

The committee urged the governor to continue his efforts by completing the work on Johnson Street, demonstrating to the people of Akwa Ibom what his administration is capable of achieving.

Speaking separately during the inspection exercise, members of the committee said the progress made in Ndiya Street and Akpan Andem market was a testament to Governor Umo Eno’s determination and commitment.

Engr. Uwem Okoko, the project contractor and MD/CEO of Hensek Integrated Services Limited, also received praise for his role in realizing the governor’s vision.

Okoko, who conducted the lawmakers around the project sites, shared updates with the lawmakers, highlighting ongoing work on Udo Umana street and the new toilet facilities in the market.

These facilities, according to him, cater to different needs, including provisions for persons with disabilities, Muslims, VIPs, and general users, ensuring that everyone is accommodated.

Prof Eno Ibanga, the commissioner for works and transport, expressed his admiration for the completed project at Akpan Andem market, emphasizing that it would effectively drain water during rainy seasons.

Also speaking at the occasion, Mr Usen Matthew, Chairman of the market Union, expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for fulfilling his promises and commended Hensek Integrated Services Limited for their exceptional work.
