NEPL, NOSL empower 50 fishermen in Eastern Obolo with new equipment

In a community initiative, two companies, the NNPC Exploration Production Limited (NEPL) and the Natural Oilfield Services Limited (NOSL), have distributed fishing gear to fifty fishermen in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The event took place at the local government secretariat as part of the companies’ commitment to giving back to the host communities.

Speaking at the occasion, Group Captain Etete Ekpo, a Senior Base Manager of NOSL, emphasized the importance of supporting the welfare of the host communities through initiatives like this.

Ekpo urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the equipment to improve their economic situation.

In his remark, the Paramount Ruler of Eastern Obolo, HRM Ubong John Etetor, commended NEPL and NOSL for consistently prioritizing the welfare of the people.

The royal father called for similar empowerment initiatives for women involved in fishing and suggested that the next phase should consider fishermen in the rivers and creeks, in addition to those fishing in the Atlantic Ocean.

“I thank the company for this gesture, and I want you to do more. Fishing is done in the Atlantic Ocean, rivers, and creeks, but today is for those fishing in the Atlantic Ocean. I crave your indulgence that other fishermen should be considered in the next batch,” he said.

His Royal Majesty Etetor also cautioned the fishermen against selling the equipment, emphasizing the importance of making full use of the fishing gears provided.

Transition Committee Chairman of Eastern Obolo, Hon. Uro Mango lauded NOSL for its unwavering and continuous partnership in the development of the area.

Hon Mango encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the equipment effectively, noting the positive impact NOSL has had on the community since the inception of his administration.

“I am always very pleased with what NOSL is doing. Since we came into power, they have been our partners. I am begging all beneficiaries to make good use of it,” Hon. Mango stated.

Beneficiaries of the gesture expressed their gratitude to the companies for the support and pledged to make effective use of the equipment.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the immediate past Chairman of the area, Hon. Abraham Odion; Vice Chairman of Eastern Obolo, Elder Aaron; Sir Adasi Obolum; village heads, and other key stakeholders.

This initiative by NEPL and NOSL underscores their commitment to fostering economic growth and improving the livelihoods of their host communities through sustainable development projects.
