
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Chapter, has concluded plans to host its maiden international conference from June 8 to 11, 2026.
The conference, which will be held at the institution’s 350 Capacity Hall, will also accommodate virtual participants from within and outside Nigeria.
The organisers said the event, themed “Emerging Technologies for Scientific Advancement, Innovation, and Sustainable Economic Development,” is aimed at promoting research, innovation, and dialogue on technology driven growth.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Chapter, Engr. Jonathan Captain Uranta said the conference would provide a platform for scholars and professionals to address pressing developmental challenges.
In his words, “This conference is designed to bring together experts across disciplines to explore how emerging technologies can drive innovation and sustainable economic development in Nigeria and beyond,”.
The keynote address will be delivered by the ASUP Zonal Coordinator, Zone D, Dr. Richard Iloma.
Other speakers expected at the event include Dr. Ime Robinson Nseobot of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, and Associate Prof. Madona Kebadze of State University, Tbilisi, Georgia.
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, is billed to attend as Special Guest of Honour.
Other dignitaries expected include the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh; Hon. Patrick Umoh; Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo; and Hon. Prince Ukpong Akpabio.
The Rector of the institution, Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essien will serve as the Chief Host.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, Essien said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and global relevance.
“As a forward-looking institution, we are committed to fostering innovation, research, and partnerships that will position our students and staff for global competitiveness,” she said. “This conference is a strategic step in that direction.”
Engr. Uranta added that selected papers presented at the conference would be considered for publication in the institution’s journal after peer review.
“Beyond presentations, this conference will open up opportunities for research collaboration and academic visibility for participants,” he added.
The conference is the first of its kind by the ASUP chapter and is expected to position the institution for greater academic engagement.
