Ukana Poly earns Ministerial Committee’s praise on skills development 

Federal Polytechnic Ukana has earned high commendation from the Ministerial Committee on Skills Development and Engineering Workshop Intervention (MCSD/EWI) for its impactful implementation of skills acquisition initiatives and engineering innovations.

The commendation came during the committee’s assessment visit to the institution, where members expressed satisfaction with the polytechnic’s effective use of TETFund supported facilities and its commitment to practical, industry-relevant training.

Leading the team, Engr. Jide Soyemi said the visit forms part of a nationwide evaluation of polytechnics, focusing on 2026 beneficiary institutions under the TETFund Skills Development Intervention, as well as ongoing engineering workshop projects under the “One Product, One Polytechnic” scheme.

During an inspection of the Entrepreneurship Centre, the committee examined locally fabricated machines, including tissue paper and paint production equipment, describing the projects as innovative, practical, and vital for promoting self-reliance and economic growth.

The team further applauded the institution’s alignment with national technical education policies and the reform vision of the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Muhammad Bugaje, aimed at repositioning polytechnics as hubs of innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills acquisition.

The Rector, Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essien, while thanking the committee for the visit, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to advancing technical education and equipping Nigerian youths with relevant, employable skills. She noted that the polytechnic would continue to expand opportunities in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Other members of the delegation included Engr. Bashir Datti of NBTE, who served as Team Secretary.
Principal officers of the polytechnic present at the meeting were the Registrar, Mr. Idhigu H. L.; the Bursar- Dr. Emmanuel Esomonu,the Dean, School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. Amatobi D. A.; the Director of the Skills Training Centre, Engr. Sunday Iji; and the Acting Head of Physical Planning, Mr. Benwali Ibejirika.

The visit highlights the growing role of polytechnics in driving Nigeria’s skills-based economy, job creation, and sustainable industrial development.
