The Kano government, on Wednesday, said Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, will lead the Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) durbar in the state.
A statement by Ibrahim Waiya, commissioner for information and internal affairs, said the decision followed consultations with the Kano emirate council and other stakeholders.
Waiya said the Kano state government received intelligence reports indicating plans by some individuals to disrupt the celebrations.
He said the state remains committed to preserving its cultural heritage but will not compromise on maintaining peace, law and order, and safeguarding lives and property.
According to him, the Hawan Idi durbar will be conducted by Sanusi from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, terminating at Kofar Fatalwa of the Kano emir’s palace.
He added that Hawan Nasarawa will take place in a modified form but not on horseback.
Waiya said Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended in the interest of public safety.
He said security agencies in Kano state have been directed to intensify surveillance and ensure compliance with the directives before, during, and after the celebrations.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information during the Sallah period.
