Nya-Etok praises Rotary Int’l for its commitment to implementing sustainable projects
Arc. Ezekiel Nya-Etok, the Governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the March 2023 election in Akwa Ibom State, has praised the Rotary Club for their remarkable commitment to implementing sustainable projects.
Speaking at the installation ceremony of Rotarian Akan Emah in Uyo, weekend, Arc. Nya-Etok, who has been widely acknowledged for his social governance ideaolgy, lauded the club’s contributions in promoting peace, combating diseases, supporting education, and more.

Additionally, he suggested that the Rotary Club establish a political think-tank to educate and engage primary and secondary institutions on civic responsibilities.
Nya-Etok emphasized the importance of political enlightenment and citizen engagement, urging the club to focus on capturing the attention of the youthful voting population in Nigeria. In conclusion, he commended the Rotary Club’s efforts while encouraging them to do even more.
He said: “Citizens need political enlightenment in the right quality and quantity so they can engage robustly in the political space. As citizens, we cannot afford the risk of turning a blind eye to politics, especially during elections. We must be involved in the leadership recruitment process.

“At this point, having recognized and commended the good works of Rotary Club, may I urge the organization and its members to do more. Rotary Club should deploy measures aimed at capturing the youthful population in Nigeria, especially those of voting age. The people should be oriented on citizen responsibility, and on the importance of performing salient civic duties, one of which is voting”.
During the grand investiture ceremony, Rotarian Akan Emah ascended to the position of 7th District Governor for Rotary International District 9142, marking a new era of leadership and philanthropy for the charity organisation.
DG Emah, a renowned media and public relations expert, outlined his vision for the 2023/2024 Rotary year, placing a strong emphasis on membership growth and impactful initiatives.
DG Emah pledged to build upon the progress made by previous leaders in contributing to the growth and development of mankind.
He expressed unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and the objectives of Rotary International.
The DG urged fellow Rotarians to embrace the theme for the 2023/2024 Rotary year, “Create Hope In The World,” and called upon individuals and organizations to join forces with Rotary International in their mission to improve the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities.
Prof Akper SAN, represented both the Former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, who was the Chairman of the occasion, and Hon Mohammed Adoke SAN, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
Chief Wike, in his message to Rotarians, urged them to continue their noble efforts in providing relief and support to those in need.
He expressed optimism that the tenure of DG Emah would bring even greater progress and prosperity to society.
The installation ceremony also featured the recognition of distinguished Nigerians who have dedicated their lives to serving humanity. Notable honorees included Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia State, NUJ President, Chief Chris Isiguzo; Prof. Okon Ansa, CMD of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof. Emem Bassey, and the Chairman/CEO of Taff Media Group, Mr. Tony Afia, among others. These exceptional individuals were awarded the Rotary Gold Service Awards and Honourary Recognitions for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.

The event was a celebration of diversity, with cultural displays and performances showcasing the rich heritage of Akwa Ibom State.
Dignitaries from various sectors, including former National Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke and the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, graced the occasion.
