Abaribe, Isiguzo, Afia, others bag Rotary awards
The Senator representing Abia-South senatorial district, Enyinnaya Abaribe; National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Chris Isiguzo, and Mr.Tony Afia, Chairman/CEO of Taff Media Group, have been honored with the Rotary Gold Service Awards and Honourary Recognitions by Rotary International District 9142 for their remarkable contributions to humanity.
The awards ceremony took place in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, weekend, at the installation ceremony of Rotarian Akan Emah as the 7th district governor for Rotary International District 9142.
Among the other distinguished Nigerians who received the awards were the Chief Medical Director of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Prof Emem Bassey and Prof. Okon Ansa.
During the event, DG Akan Emah outlined his vision for the coming year, prioritizing membership growth, impactful initiatives, and community service projects.
DG Emah expressed his dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and Rotary International’s objectives, urging fellow Rotarians to embrace the theme for the 2023/2024 Rotary year: “Create Hope In The World.”
Prof Akper SAN, represented both the Former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, who was the Chairman of the Occasion and Hon. Mohammed Adoke SAN, the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation.
The former governor commended Rotarians for their noble efforts and expressed confidence in Governor Emah’s ability to bring even greater progress and prosperity to society.
The investiture ceremony was an occasion of cultural displays and performances, showcasing the vibrant heritage of Akwa Ibom State.
Dignitaries from various sectors, including former National Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke; Akwa Ibom commissioner for information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and the governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the 2023 election in Akwa Ibom State, Arc Ezekiel Nya-Etok, graced the event.
In his keynote address at the occasion, Arc. Nya-Etok praised the Rotary Club for their remarkable commitment to implementing sustainable projects. He also lauded the club’s contributions in promoting peace, combating diseases, supporting education, and more.
The colourful ceremony was a gathering of inspiring individuals, recognized for their dedication to making a positive impact on the world.
