Akwa Ibom: CP Azare partners with youth leaders, CEOs to address peace, development

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Baba Mohammed Azare, Monday, convened a meeting with youth leaders from all 31 Local Government Areas and executives from various industries.
A press release issued by the police spokesperson, Timfon John, said the discussions focused on promoting peace, enhancing police-community relations, and discouraging illegal activities.
John, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said CP Azare encouraged the youth representatives to embrace peace and actively contribute to the state’s development.
He highlighted the significance of collaboration with law enforcement, urging young people to provide timely and relevant information to improve police operations.
The Commissioner issued a strong warning against jungle justice and road blockades as forms of protest, emphasizing that such actions are illegal.
He made it clear that the police would not tolerate any lawlessness and urged the youth to express their grievances through appropriate legal channels by reporting issues to the police for proper resolution.
Additionally, DCP Salawudeen Ishiaka, the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department, advised the youth to avoid cultism and other illegal activities, encouraging them to focus on the development of their communities.

In his response, Mr. Oscar Ita, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Udung Uko Chapter, praised the Commissioner for his proactive approach.
Ita committed to spreading the message among other youths, urging them to collaborate with the police in combating crime.
Comrade Emem Alexander Udo, NYCN Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, also expressed gratitude for the meeting, calling it unprecedented.
He acknowledged the Commissioner’s efforts in reinforcing the idea that “the police is your friend” and promised full cooperation in promoting peace and security.
In a related development, CP Baba Mohammed Azare held a separate meeting with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies operating in the state to address ongoing tensions between youth and business owners.
Azare raised concerns about the growing disconnect between companies and local youth, which has sometimes resulted in violent confrontations.
The Commissioner urged business leaders to create opportunities for youth engagement through employment and educational programs to foster lasting peace.
He stressed the importance of a harmonious relationship, mutual understanding, and cooperation between businesses and the youth, recommending that young people be included in community meetings and actively involved in company affairs whenever possible.
CP Azare cautioned against confrontational tactics, advising that all disputes should be reported to the police to prevent escalation into violence. He assured the business community of enhanced security measures to protect their operations.
Mr. Johnson Ogbum, General Manager of Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited, spoke on behalf of the attending companies and expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for facilitating the dialogue.
He acknowledged the existing communication gap between businesses and youth and committed to making efforts to engage the youth meaningfully moving forward.
He further pledged that any emerging issues would be resolved amicably and that companies would collaborate closely with the police to ensure a peaceful and conducive business environment in the state.
The Commissioner said the Akwa Ibom State Police Command remained dedicated to fostering peace and supporting the energy security program of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun PhD, NPM, while promoting collaboration among all stakeholders in the state.
He encouraged all youths and business entities to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to uphold law and order.
