Uduak Ekpo-Ufot, the representative for Etinan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has endorsed Mr. Uko Essien Udom as the most qualified candidate to continue serving as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State.

Hon. Ekpo-Ufot emphasised that Uko Udom’s four years of experience in the role make him exceptionally suited to continue as the chief law officer of the state, citing his impressive track record in office.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during a plenary session while lawmakers screened the commissioner-nominees and special advisers submitted by Governor Umo Eno for approval, ahead of the formation of a new cabinet in Akwa Ibom State.

Expressing appreciation to Governor Eno for the reappointment, the lawmaker highlighted Mr. Udom’s significant contributions, including his role in the establishment of the then Oil Mineral Producing Area Development Commission (OMPADEC) and his involvement in the onshore/offshore dichotomy issue in Nigeria, which greatly benefited Akwa Ibom State.

In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, invited Mr. Uko Udom to take a bow and exit the chamber, acknowledging his distinguished service as a former Attorney General and Justice Commissioner.

Mr. Uko Udom, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the commissioner-nominee from Etinan Local Government Area, graduated from the Nigerian Law School in 1982 and was called to the Bar in 1983.

With 42 years of continuous legal practice, Udom was appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice by former Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2021, a position he maintained under Governor Umo Eno’s administration until the cabinet’s dissolution in January 2025.

During the screening session on Tuesday, 20 out of the 27 commissioner-nominees and special advisers submitted by Governor Eno were evaluated.

Speaker Udeme Otong announced that the remaining nominees would be screened at the next scheduled House meeting.
