2025: Police arrest 563 suspects, recover 179 firearms, secure 33 convictions in Akwa Ibom


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has highlighted significant achievements over the past year, including the arrest of 563 suspects involved in various crimes such as armed robbery, cultism, and kidnapping.
Mr Baba Muhammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, disclosed this during a press conference on the command’s 2025 review of security operations in the state on Tuesday at the police headquarters in Uyo.


According Mr Azare, the Command also recovered 179 assorted firearms, 323 types of ammunition, and 10 kidnapped victims were rescued.


Additionally, he said 74 human trafficking victims were saved and reunited with their families, while 33 convictions were secured in court.
Azare noted that the security situation in the state “remains generally peaceful, calm, and stable throughout the year under review.”
He said that the achievements recorded by the command, were made through “intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols, strategic deployments, community cooperation, and effective inter-agency collaboration.”
CP Azare noted that the Command had effectively managed security for political, social, and religious events, while also enforcing laws to maintain public order.
He reiterated the importance of community policing and collaboration with local leaders and organisations to foster public trust.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Commissioner outlined key priorities, including strengthening intelligence-led policing, combating cybercrime, and enhancing professionalism within the force.
He assured residents that security measures would be intensified during the festive season, with increased patrols and strategic deployments across all Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and the community for their support and partnership, while reaffirming the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property in the coming year.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
