Police demolish Ibom Youth Council hideout in Mkpat Enin, capture 3 suspects

In compliance with the recent ban imposed on the Ibom Youth Council by Governor Umo Eno, the police in Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, demolished the group’s headquarters in Ikot Isighe, Mkpat Enin local government area and arrested three suspects.
It was gathered that a combined security team, acting on reliable information, raided the building, causing members to scatter in different directions.
Official statement by ASP Timfon John, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the operation in response to intelligence gathered.
According to ASP John, the group was found to be involved in acquiring weapons, conducting military training, targeting security installations, trespassing on private properties, and planning to instigate widespread violence at the end of 2024 and beyond.
She emphasized that the police, supported by the state government, are committed to utilizing all lawful methods to uphold Akwa Ibom’s reputation as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
The statement reads: “Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and share information about persons or groups engaging in activities capable of disturbing public peace. Landlords are warned to be cautious before leasing their properties to individuals or organizations.
“Any property used in the commission of crimes, especially acts of subversion against the state, will be demolished, and the owners will be treated as accomplices.
“The citizens and residents of Akwa Ibom State are assured of their safety this yuletide season and beyond, as security personnel are working tirelessly to ensure the protection of lives and property”.
