Rivers: Cross River Ag. Governor disowns S/South Govs’ Forum, backs Tinubu’s emergency rule

• Ag. Governor Peter Odey
Cross River Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has distanced himself from a statement attributed to the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, which opposed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency involving the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the House of Assembly.
In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Fred Abua Esq., the Acting Governor said he was neither consulted nor was his opinion sought before the issuance of the statement.
“The position of the forum does not reflect the views of the Government of Cross River State, which fully aligns with the decision of Mr. President, taken in the best interest of national security, peace, and stability.
“Every responsible government must prioritise the protection of lives and property, and where circumstances necessitate decisive action, such measures should be supported for the good of democracy and national unity,” he maintained.
The governor stated that Cross River State remains committed to upholding constitutional governance, stressing that the state will continue to collaborate with Tinubu’s administration in ensuring peace and security in the country.
