There was pandamonium at the University of Uyo town campus, Akwa Ibom state on Thursday following electrocution of two of her staffs.

According to the Blueprint, one of the affected persons, Michael Udosen, a contract staff of the University, died on the spot while his colleague, Effiong Joseph, is still lying unconscious after being rushed to the University Teaching hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at about few minutes past 2pm when the duo where trying to reconnect an armored cable that had earlier been vandalised near the language laboratory of the institution’s town campus.

An eyewitness and student of Department of English and Literary Studies, who spoke on condition of anonymity said she saw how the incident happened.

She said: “I saw one of them fell down from the pole and the second person was still up. I did not know that they were electrocuted. Even people around could not go close, because they were scared.

“Some people came and immediately rushed the one that fell down to the hospital. But the one hanging on the pole died on the spot.”

However, when our correspondent visited the scene for information on the situation, some senior management staff of the institution had gathered at the scene discussing the root cause of the incident.

They expressed disappointment at the unfortunate incident but did not rule out the possibility of sabotage.

“Why is it that this place which has been vandalised and without light for a long time suddenly got connected with light when the electricians were trying to reconnect the armoured cable, this is a clear case of sabotage,” one of them said.

The school is yet to make any official statement on the incident.
