Ime Okon sponsors 4 bills, executes over 22 constituency projects worth N1.7b in 2 years

National Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, has announced his sponsorship of at least four bills and four motions to date, as well as the implementation of more than 22 infrastructure, empowerment, and welfare projects valued at over N1.7 billion in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency.

This amount, according to the federal lawmaker, exceeds the typical N200 million project limit allocated per member since his election to the National Assembly two years ago.

Barr. Okon, who spoke during his mid-term media chat at his constituency office in Itam, on Monday, highlighted his legislative contributions and development initiatives across the two local government areas he serves.

Among the bills he has sponsored are the Company and Allied Matters Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Industrial Training Fund Act (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

In addition to these, Barr. Okon has co-sponsored several significant legislative bills and motions with fellow lawmakers, including a bill to establish the Metallurgical and Material Engineers and Scientist Registration Board of Nigeria (HB. 2146, 2025) and a bill to create the Biomedical Engineers and Scientist Registration Board of Nigeria (HB. 2141, 2025).

On the development front, Barr Okon stated that over 22 constituency projects have been completed or are currently ongoing in the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, encompassing a variety of initiatives, including the construction of road and civic centers, as well as the installation of solar-powered street lights.

Specific projects highlighted by the federal lawmaker include the construction of a furnished six-classroom block at the Technical School in Ayadehe, a four-classroom block with toilet facilities at PCN Primary School in North Itam, and a 1.5 km road on Joshua Uwah Street, which includes solar-powered street lights and a drainage system in Mbak Itam III.

Other notable projects Barr Okon executed include the commissioning of an ultra-modern civic center with a 450-capacity in Idoro, the ongoing construction of a 1,000-capacity civic center in Nkwa, Ibiono Ibom LGA, and the installation of solar-powered street lights in various locations across both local government areas.

Also in his scorecard, Barr Okon has facilitated the provision of solar-powered boreholes, roads with drainage and lighting, and digital tools for education.

He has supported over 300 students with bursaries, including 18 Law School students, and organised free medical outreach programs in Itu and Ibiono Ibom LGAs.

In terms of empowerment, Okon has donated cars, provided scholarships to the children of deceased political stakeholders, and offered medical and welfare support to over 800 constituents.

He has also helped facilitate employment opportunities in federal and state agencies, including the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Nigeria Police Force, and Federal Fire Service.

While some projects have been fully implemented, Barr. Okon acknowledged that others are still in progress and reaffirmed his commitment to their completion.

“By the grace of God I will in the last quarter of this year carry out human capital empowerment where my constituents will benefit from various forms of empowerment,” he stated.

He urged constituents to continue their support for Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other federal legislators, expressing confidence that such backing would help attract more dividends of democracy to the constituency and the state.
