JNTSCON to hold S’south national industrial transport, health/safety conference in Uyo

The Joint National Transport Safety Committee (JNTSCON), in partnership with Akwa Ibom State Local Content Compliance Monitoring Committee (AKSLCCMC), is set to host the South-South National Industrial Transport, Occupational Health, and Safety Conference in Uyo from November 26th to 28th, 2024.

Speaking at a news conference in Uyo, on Thursday, the Chairman of JNTSCON/AKSLCCMC, Dr Preferred John, stated that the conference, scheduled for flagged off by the Honourable Minister of Labour and Productivity and Governor Umo Eno on November 27th, 2024, would focus on promoting a safer and more sustainable future in industrial transport and occupational health and safety.

According to Dr. John, Key themes for the event include “Driving Towards a Safer and More Sustainable Future, Promoting Transport and Occupational Health Safety (OHS); Risk and Incidence Preventable Culture, and Advancing Industrial Transport, Occupational Health and Safety Compliance through National Enforcement Strategies”

He highlighted that the conference aims to assist stakeholders in meeting regulatory requirements outlined in national policies on OHS and transport, saying that attendees can expect numerous benefits such as professional development, access to innovative goods and services, networking opportunities, skills enhancement, and updates on national compliance enforcement initiatives.

John added that the conference seeks to foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and progress in the field of industrial transport, occupational health, and safety for the betterment of individuals, organizations, and the broader community.

“The planned conference shall unveil various national transport, occupational health and safety compliance enforcement directives/Initiatives, including joint task force on national industrial safety advocacy and compliance in Nigeria;

“Joint national task force on national drivers health and safety advocacy compliance in Nigeria, national task force on the removal of trucks parked illegally on federal highways, national task force on compliance with the Federal Highway Act (Control of Dimensions, Weight, and Axle Load of Heavy Duty Goods Transport Vehicles Regulations 2018;

“LPG/compressed cylinders and operations standardization and safety compliance management; Height accessing equipment, swing rope and scaffolds occupational health and safety (OHS) compliance management; Recycles waste (iron scraps, papers, plastics, tyres, and sewages, etc) occupational health and safety (OHS) compliance enforcement management”.

The Joint National Transport Safety Committee in Nigeria (JNTSCON) was established in line with the National Action Policy Plan on Freight Transport and Haulage Safety Operation Compliance by the Presidency in 2018.

The committee comprises key stakeholders including the Office of the National Security Adviser, Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Inspector General of Police, National Transport Associations Fleet Operators, Southwest Industrial and Transport Safety Hub, Nigeria, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Shippers Council, among others.
