Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well for Akwa Ibom farmer- Dr Glory Edet
The Cimmissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet has told sakeholders in the food and Agriculture sector that Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well for Akwa Ibom farmers, especially in boosting food sufficiency.
Dr Glory Edet stated this during the South – South Food Systems Summit that takes place recently in two centers in the South South zone due to the Covid -19 pandemic.
The Agriculture Commissioner was speaking at Calabar, being the centre for Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State on Thursday, 8th April, 2021.
Dr Glory Edet, who represented at Governor Udom Emmanuel at the Summit, highlighted the support of the government to farmers, including distribution of improved inputs which he said is the key to increased production.
She encouraged individuals and groups to take farming as a business which is the major way out of poverty reduction in the society and emphasized that to have a stable society, food security should not be compromised.
Declaring the event opened, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade stated that concerted efforts are needed to achieve food security not only for the South South region, but for Nigeria and the world at large

The Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance,Budget and Planning encouraged participants/stakeholders to take the exercise serious and share experiences.
She added that the Explanatory Dialogue is meant to create avenue for sharing of initiatives and ideas.
Goodwill Messages were given by many Stakeholders. Those present werek: The of Faculty of Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State University and Cross River State University for Science and Technology, Permanent Secretaries of Planning and Budget,Directors from Ministries of Agriculture as well of that of Economic Development.
Others include representatives of CBN, AFAN, Women in Agriculture, private sector, Development partners, amongst others.
The Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Cross Rivers State while welcoming all, stated that the food summit is meant to deepen our food safety and security systems
