AKIRS to launch radio tax education programme Thursday


The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) is set to launch a tax education programme on radio starting Thursday, September 5, 2024. Over the next three months initially, the programme will run for thirty minutes on four radio stations in the state.
The English version, called Tax Talk Time, will be broadcast on Comfort 95.1 FM from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, Redemption 101.5 FM from 12:30 to 1:00 pm, and Heritage 104.9 FM from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm on Thursdays, while vernacular version, Ini Nneme Tax, will air on Tañg Sio 102.7 FM from 5:30 to 6:00 pm on Fridays.
During the unveiling of the tax sensitization programme on radio at the Revenue House in Uyo on Monday, AKIRS Chairman, Mr. Okon Okon, highlighted the importance of expanding communication channels to increase tax awareness among taxpayers.
In their presentations at the unveiling event, the information manager of AKIRS, Mr. Nsikak Esenowo, and another speaker, Abasifreke Effiong, stated that the programme also aims to educate listeners on the value added by the Akwa Ibom State Government using taxpayers’ funds and will include interactive segments for inquiries and a weekly tax quiz with prizes for participants.
They noted that the Tax Talk Time programme will cover Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, and Eket senatorial districts, with Comfort fm, Redemption fm, and Heritage fm respectively, with the vernacular version on Tañg Sio FM.
The unveiling event was attended by State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Linus Nkan, and Akparawa James Edet, a representative of the Commissioner for Information, as well as officials from AKIRS and the Governor’s Special Assistant on Tourism.
