Etim Ekpo: Gideon Uwa delivers 1.1 Km asphalted road at council secretariat, other laudable projects in three months

Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Hon. Gideon Uwa, has successfully completed a 1.1 km asphalted internal road featuring proper drainage, walkways, and three parking lots with a capacity for approximately 500 cars at the Council Secretariat, all within his first three months in office.

Hon. Uwa shared this achievement on Monday, January 27, during a briefing with members of the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA), who visited the Council area, as part of the COOPA Citizens’ Tour.

In addition to the road project, the Chairman has also undertaken extensive landscaping and remodeling of the entire Etim Ekpo Council Secretariat, enhancing its appearance with improved aesthetic features.

Uwa stated: “When I resumed as Council Chairman on October 7, 2024, my intention was to transform the entire secretariat. The results you see today are not surprising because I was mentally, spiritually, and physically prepared for the job. Before the end of my tenure, I will definitely achieve much more.”

For the 2025 fiscal year, Uwa announced that his administration is focusing on agriculture, with plans to massively expand the Council’s cassava plantations.

Additionally, the Chairman revealed that constructing an urban market within the local government is one of his top priorities in 2025 to enhance commerce and industry in the area.

Uwa noted that the Council has reconstructed and remodeled St. Anthony Primary School in Ward II and has recovered and refurbished an abandoned grader to help develop rural areas, even as he emphasised the administration’s commitment to excellent staff welfare.

Currently, the Chairman said his administration is partnering with various agencies to provide skills training for local youth. According to him, participants would receive starter packs upon completion of their training.

Earlier in his address, COOPA Chancellor, Mr. Utitofon Morgan, who led a team of online publishers along with the Tour Coordinator, Comrade Uwakmfon Dan, clarified that the purpose of their visit was not to target any Council Chairman, but to showcase the activities of council areas in alignment with their development agenda for the 2025 fiscal year.

Morgan who appreciated the Hon. Uwa for the warm reception accorded his team, congratulated him on his first 100 days in office and wished him fruitful service to Etim Ekpo people.
