Otobong Bob’s free medical outreach saves over 1,000 in Nsit Ubium

The three-day free medical and surgical outreach, sponsored by Rt. Hon. (Barr) Otobong Bob, the Deputy Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has significantly impacted and transformed lives in Nsit Ubium State Constituency.

Taking place from February 13 to 15, 2025, at the Primary Health Centre Operational Base in Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium, the outreach provided essential medical treatments and consultations to more than one thousand local residents.

Speaking on Friday, Barr. Bob reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of his constituents, emphasising his ongoing efforts to ensure accessible healthcare and improve the quality of life for his constituents.

He expressed gratitude to the residents of Nsit Ubium for taking advantage of the outreach and commended the medical professionals for their commitment, while praying for lasting healing for all beneficiaries.

Over one thousand individuals benefited from the programme, which featured a skilled team of medical professionals performing more than 70 surgeries, including complex procedures for giant hernias, appendicitis, breast lump removals, and treatments for hepatitis, malaria, typhoid fever, ulcers, hypertension, and diabetes.

In addition to surgeries, the team conducted 930 outpatient consultations, dispensed 283 prescription lenses to assist those with vision impairments, and performed laboratory tests, providing comprehensive diagnostics and treatments for various health issues.

The lawmaker also facilitated the registration of 1,500 constituents into the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme during the outreach.

Notable attendees included Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, the Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, who represented the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; Senator Effiong Bob, the political leader of Uyo Senatorial District; House Leader, Hon. Sunday Johnny; and lawmakers from Uyo, Ini, Eket, and Nsit Ibom, among others.

During his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Hon. Alfred Charles, expressed his immense joy and praised Barr Bob for his commitment to enhancing the livelihoods and well-being of the people.

He stated, “I cannot express enough gratitude to Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob for this significant initiative of providing free medical and surgical services to those in need in our local government area. This exemplifies true representation.”

A group of beneficiaries, who spoke with journalists shortly after receiving their free treatment, expressed their heartfelt thanks to Barr Otobong Bob and offered prayers for God to fulfill his aspirations.
