Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Uyo Local Government Area have passed a vote of confidence on Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Transition Committee.
The stakeholders, who spoke on Thursday during the commissioning of a new 18-room Golden Technical Block built by the Council for the works department, commended Dr. Udo’s performance during his time in office as Council Chairman.
The event featured the Governor, who was represented by Sir Charles Udoh, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Hon. Monday Eyo, the Deputy Political Leader of Uyo; and Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka, the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA).

Others in attendance included former Council Chairman, Prince Ekerette Ekpenyong; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr. John Etim; the member representing Uyo State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, and the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Sylvanus Okon.
While moving a motion for the vote of confidence, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo stated that Dr. Udo, who has been in office since 2020 as Executive Chairman and currently serves as Chairman of the Transition Committee, has made the Peoples Democratic Party proud by surpassing all expectations.
Asuquo’s motion, which received a standing ovation, was unanimously approved when put to a vote. The people of Uyo were urged to ensure the continuation of the progress achieved under Dr. Udo’s leadership by supporting his re-election for a second term.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Mr. Frank Archibong and Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Transition Committee Dr. Anthony Luke, commended Dr. Udo as a role model for other local government chairmen in the state.
During the project inauguration, Governor Eno, represented by Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Sir Charles Udoh, also acknowledged Dr. Udo’s outstanding performance in the Council and thanked the people for their support in producing a commendable chairman.
“The news of your performance, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, has spread throughout Akwa Ibom. Every son and daughter of Uyo is proud of your achievements.
“His Excellency the Governor is also proud of your accomplishments. The Governor believes that you are an example of the type of leadership that Akwa Ibom should strive to produce across the board,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Udo highlighted the Council’s focus on enhancing infrastructure in line with the governor’s ARISE Agenda’s goals, leading to the successful completion of the Golden Technical Block, which, he noted, would address the accommodation challenges faced by the Works Department staff.
He expressed gratitude to the governor for his support and to the leaders in Uyo and well-wishers for their presence.
Dr. Udo served as the Executive Chairman of Uyo from 2020 to 2023, during which time he oversaw significant projects such as the ultramodern health center in Ikot Ebido that has had a positive impact on the community. In December 2023, he was appointed as the Transition Committee Chairman.
