Ukana Poly Rector receives ASUP new EXCO
•••𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩, 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦


The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Mrs Eduma Enobong Essien, has charged members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the institution.
Mrs Essien gave the charge when the newly elected leadership of ASUP, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, paid a courtesy visit to her on Wednesday.
The Rector urged academic staff to embrace research, professionalism and hard work, while shunning all forms of examination malpractice and other sharp practices capable of undermining the academic integrity of the institution.
She said the Polytechnic had zero tolerance for sorting, sale of grades and other forms of academic misconduct, warning that severe sanctions would be imposed on staff found culpable.
Mrs.Essien also warned against sexual harassment in any form, stressing that the institution would not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions against offenders.
She congratulated the new ASUP leadership on what she described as a peaceful and mature election, assuring the union of management’s readiness to work with ASUP and other staff unions to advance the academic fortunes of the Polytechnic.
The Rector charged academic staff to be dutiful and committed to their responsibilities, urging them to become advocates of excellence, hard work and dedication.
She disclosed that the Polytechnic would soon commence digital academic operations, including the use of Blackboard, in line with the directive of the Minister of Education.
According to her, the new policy makes it imperative for all members of staff to improve their Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills to effectively participate in the digital transformation of the institution.
On the recent recruitment exercise,Mrs Essien said the process was merit-based, urging ASUP to continue to promote merit in its activities as part of efforts to reposition the Polytechnic for greater functionality.
She said academic staff had an important role to play in placing Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, in a strong position among polytechnics in Nigeria.
Earlier in his speech, the ASUP Chairman, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Comrade Ademola Oyebanji, expressed appreciation for the Rector’s leadership and efforts which has resulted in the expansion of the academic programmes of the institution.
Oyebanji said the courtesy visit was to reaffirm ASUP’s commitment to supporting genuine programmes and initiatives of management aimed at improving the Polytechnic.
He pledged the readiness of the union to work with management to position the institution more favourably among polytechnics in the country.
In his vote of thanks, the institution’s boss, Dr Emmanuel Obinna Esomonu, thanked the ASUP leadership for its commitment to working with management, noting that greater collaboration between the union and management would benefit the institution.
Dr.Esomonu also congratulated the new ASUP executives on their successful election and assured staff of management’s commitment to initiatives and welfare schemes that would improve their wellbeing.
Also in attendance at the courtesy visit was the Polytechnic Librarian, Mr Ehikioya Uduebor.
