UNIUYO inducts new doctors at 25th Physicians’ Oath-Taking Ceremony

Uyo –The University of Uyo, on Tuesday 7th April, 2026, marked a significant milestone in its medical training history as it hosted the 25th Physicians’ Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony for its graduating medical students.

The event, held at the institution’s main auditorium, drew an impressive gathering of dignitaries, faculty members, proud families, and well-wishers who came to witness the formal admission of the new doctors into the noble medical profession.

The ceremony was graced by several prominent figures in academia and the medical community. Among them were the Registrar of the Medical Association, Associate Professor Fatima Kyari; the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel G. Odewumi; the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Enobong Ikpeme; the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Dianabasi U. Eduwem; as well as the Provost of the College of Health Sciences and other principal officers of the University.

In his address, the Acting Vice Chancellor of UNIUYO, Prof Samuel Gbadebo Odewumi, congratulated the inductees on their resilience and commitment, noting that the journey through medical school is both rigorous and transformative.

He charged the new doctors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and compassion in their practice, emphasising the critical role they will play in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.

High point of the ceremony was the solemn administration of the Hippocratic Oath, during which the inductees pledged to dedicate their lives to the service of humanity, uphold patient confidentiality, and practice medicine with integrity and humility. The moment was met with applause and emotional pride from the audience, as families celebrated the culmination of years of sacrifice and hard work.

Another notable highlight was the presentation of awards to outstanding students who graduated with distinctions in various fields of medicine. The awards underscored academic excellence and served as inspiration for continued dedication in the medical profession.

Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Dr. Elizabeth Friday Jackson expressed deep gratitude to God for the grace and strength to complete the demanding journey of medical education. She paid special tribute to her sponsor, Barrister Emmanuel Spencer, acknowledging his unwavering support throughout her training.

In celebration of her achievement, Dr. Jackson later hosted friends and family at Dreams Villa Hotels, Off Abak Road, in a joyous reception marked by goodwill messages and heartfelt congratulations.
