Eket residents laud council boss on road intervention

Residents of Eket have commended the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area  Councilof Akwa Ibom, Mr Akaninyene Tommey for infrastructural development of the area.

The people made the commendation in a separate interview with newsmen in Eket Local Government Area on Wednesday.

The people noted the operation zero potholes campaign launched by the Council Boss was conceived to ensure regular maintenance of the roads especially within major roads in the oil city.

Mr John Otu, the Park Chairman in Eket, has commended the Council Boss for rehabilitating and filling major potholes in Eket metropolis and its environs.

He decried the rate of deplorable state of roads in Eket since five years ago, saying that the present administration of council had changed the face of Eket metropolis and its environs.

“With the ongoing rehabilitation, most roads that were not motorable can now be accessed and for an oil rich city like Eket, it is a welcome development,” Otu said.

He explained that since the coming of the present council Boss in less than one month, the potholes had been fixed in major roads in the area and Eket have gotten a new look.

“Our greatest challenge in Eket was deplorable roads and potholes but since Mr Tommey came on board, there is no more bad roads again.

“He has fixed the major potholes that was causing divertion of cars in the area and now the whole road is motorable,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the road intervened was bad portion of Idua Road, Udoh Umoh Street, Idiam Street, Uqua Street, Stadium Road, RCC road, among others.

The Chairman of the Park said that with the way the Chairman of Eket has started,  there’s hope and it shows that he was prepared for the office.

“To witness this level of road maintenance within the first months of assumption of office was remarkable and heart warming,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Assam Abia, who reside in Eket, has also commended Mr Tommey for rehabilitation of major roads in Eket and its environs.

He further commended the council boss for operatibg keep Eket clean, which had create job opportunities for teeming youths and women in the area.

“It shows focus and systematic execution of his mandate and plan for the people of Eket local government area.

“Let’s believe that the administration will sustain the tempo, and it does, there is the optimism that things will turn around. The city has become a project site and it’s a work in progress, and the people are happy,” Abia said.

“The Executive Chairman, Mr Tommey had begun daily sweeping of Eket Oron road and other major roads in Eket in order to assure appropriate and reliable safe driving conditions while improving road capacity and operational efficiency,” he said.

He said the development would not only beautify and keep Eket clean, but would also create job opportunity to  women and youths in the area.

Abia slso commended the Council boss for taking a bold step to ensure that Eket roads was kept clean and free form sand for easy usage by the people.

“I want to commend present Chairman of Eket for what he has done so far in roads maintenance in the area,” he said.

In his remarks, Chief Christopher Isong, lauded the Chairman of Eket in road maintenance, filling of potholes and daily sweeping of roads in the area.

“Highways and roads are continuously exposed to changing weather conditions that can rapidly jeopardies public safety if not properly maintain.

“The roads that have been abandoned for some many years, is now wearing a new look, we are so happy with this present Chairman of Eket, ” Chief Isong said.

Isong said that the Chairman of Eket has achieved so much before his 100 days in office and car owners now have a sigh of due to road intervention.

He  said that the Chairman has started assisting youths to be self reliant in order to employ others in the area.

Isong said that the Chairman had directed all vehicles illegally parked on the road sides to be removed immediately and all road splinter parks henceforth are prohibited.
