NSCDC in Akwa Ibom trains private guard companies on capacity building, optimum performance

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has trained directors and managers of private guard companies operating in the state on capacity building, professionalism and optimum results delivery.

The training, which is part of the annual programme of the Private Guard Companies Department of the NSCDC in the state, was to enhance professionalism of the private security practitioners working in Akwa Ibom, strengthen their capacity to achieve more results, as well as boost their knowledge to remain relevant with trends in the global security practice.

Declaring the training open in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Bashar Kefas Hussaini, explained that the annual event was instituted by the Corps to empower private guard security practitioners with the modern-day security operations, while also ensuring that the private security industry was not allowed into the hands of individuals with questionable character or reputation.

He therefore, stated that the industry in Akwa Ibom State had so far achieved a lot of mileage in different areas of private security operations, given the commitment, resilience and determined efforts of the NSCDC to bring about security and safety of citizens and residents in the state.

Speaking during the training, the head of Private Guard Security Companies Department, Deputy Commandant Emmanuel Peters, said the capacity building event was not only to update the professionalism of private guard security practitioners in Akwa Ibom, but also to strengthen relationships and keep all channels of communication active.

Deputy Commandant Peters therefore, assured that the Department and by extension, NSCDC would continue to build the capacity of private security guard practitioners in the state to ensure that they provide both professional and optimum services to their employers in particular, and the state in general.

The newly elected chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Barr. Etetim Onuk, expressed appreciation to the Corps for the training, noting that regular training of all the practitioners in the private security guard industry was the most proactive mental and social re-engineering that must be encouraged.

The one-day capacity training which covered different areas such as: Communication Essentials for Effective Security Operations: Private Guard Companies Perspective, Intelligence-based Man Guarding: A Panacea for Effective Security Management, and Guard Management for Effective Security Operations, was handled by experienced security experts, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, Francis Erhabor (Rtd), DCC David Elechukwu and Supt. Ekerete Friday.

The training also featured an exposition of the Private Guard Companies’ Administrative and Operational Procedures which was taken by the Head of Department of Private Guard Companies, as well as presentation of certificate of participation to the participants.

The event had in attendance, Commander 21C, DCC Stanley Eboh, Head of Administration, DCC Matthew Onuh, among others.
