Lady Otong congratulates Prince Akpabio on APC ticket for 2027 polls
The Head of the Catholic BLOC of WOWICAN in Akwa Ibom State and immediate past President of the Uyo Diocesan Catholic Women Organisation Nigeria (CWON), Lady Iniobong Bassey Otong, has congratulated Prince Ukpong Akpabio II on emerging as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Essien Udim State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lady Otong, who currently serves as Secretary of the Projects Committee of the National Catholic Women Organisation Nigeria, described Akpabio’s emergence as a reflection of public confidence in his performance at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday at the Methodist primary school Okop-akama in Ukana following the APC House of Assembly primary election, she said the overwhelming support recorded during the nomination process demonstrated widespread satisfaction among constituents over his representation during his first term in office.
She expressed confidence that the APC candidate would secure victory in the 2027 elections, citing what she described as strong grassroots support for the party in Essien Udim and across Akwa Ibom State.
Lady Otong also commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio, his wife, party faithful, stakeholders and supporters for backing Prince Akpabio’s re-election bid.
Describing the lawmaker as an “outstanding candidate,” she said his legislative achievements, including sponsored bills, motions, empowerment programmes and constituency projects, had strengthened his political standing and enhanced his acceptability among the people.
According to her, the lawmaker’s performance in office played a significant role in his renomination, adding that both the party and the electorate appeared committed to sustaining what she termed effective representation in the constituency.
